We are better together

Be a part of a movement dedicated to fostering social unity for the well being and safety of our world

Our call for unity

Whoa, 2016 was a rough year: Islamic State-inspired attacks across the world, the resurgence of right-wing groups, the election of Donald Trump, Brexit, the public rejection of a peace deal with the FARC in Colombia, police brutality and violent retaliation. These world-changing events are connected by a growing divisiveness in our society based on a belief that we are only safe if we look out for our own.

Wouldn't it be better if we stood united against our common challenges instead? We realize that now, more than ever, we need a powerful call to action for inclusive leadership. For too long, those who want to see us stand divided have been louder than those who want to see us stand together.

So let's get together! We need a corps of globally minded citizens who understand that the unbalanced elevation of any marginalized group is as detrimental as their very suppression, and beginning with a true sense of equality for all is the only path for progress.

What we are is an experiment; a daring belief that young dedicated individuals can make a positive difference, reach across divisions, listen from a place of inquiry, and lead in setting a future which all of us can share. We need more of you to join us. It is time that We Unify.
How WeUnify works

WeUnify is a movement of young leaders dedicated to building a world based on unity.
We bring the WeUnify community, action and ideas to cities across the world, in turn uniting initiatives across the world with our core values of hope, solidarity and understanding across lines of difference.

We will consider our jobs done when we successfully create a culture which makes unacceptable the marginalization of any human being, and all young people who have been pushed to the fringes of our society are able to find a positive pathway of opportunity.

A global community...

Anyone passionate about working across lines of difference can sign up as a WeUnify member, and members are encouraged to join or form WeUnify chapters in their own cities to amplify their impact.

About WeUnify

Solidarity over alienation

We are better united

Hope over fear

Together we can make a difference

inclusion over hatred

Everyone deserves to be heard

We are better together

WeUnify is a movement dedicated to fostering social unity for the well being and safety of our world

Our story

Our inspiration to create WeUnify came in the wake of tragedy. In December 2014, WeUnify's founder, Henry Chim, found himself immersed in the aftermath of one of the darkest moments in the country's history days after he landed in Pakistan for a year long international development assignment through Acumen's Global Fellows program . The Taliban, in a bid to seek attention, had just killed 132 children at the Army Public School in Peshawar.

Since then, acts of extremist violence across the world have escalated and sparked a mindset that exclusion based on race or religion is the answer to our safety and stability. But it's not. When we stop trusting our neighbors and shut our fellow humans out because of their appearances or beliefs, we create the very barriers which feed into resentment and possibly violence.

The right thing to do is to stand up for the civil liberties and rights of everyone, not just the select few. In an time of #hashtagcampaigns and one-time protests, we recognize the need for a positive counter-movement with staying power to truly move the needle. That's why we started WeUnify; we are a community that's here to stay.

Consider this your invitation to lead in taking on one of the greatest causes of our time. Will you lead the way?

PS. We don't have our 501(c)3 status yet, but we're working on it!

Meet our team

WeUnify's team spans geographies, nations, religions and ethnicities.
We are looking for volunteers to join our team, especially if you have skills as a Community Manager, Campaign Organizer or Content Creator.

A new breed of leadership

The civil war in Syria, Brexit, police brutality and violent retaliation, Islamic State-inspired attacks across Europe and the rise of Trump: rarely, it seems, have events felt so out of control as ongoing conflict and disenfranchisement pulls our society apart. In the wake of fear and chaos, lines are being drawn as people around the world seek the safety of their own tribes. Native-born and immigrants. Muslims and non-Muslims. Black and white. Us and them.

More than ever, we need a new breed of leaders who champion solidarity over alienation, hope over fear and self worth over self doubt. WeUnify chapter leaders are the extraordinary individuals who bring WeUnify's calls to action, ideas and community to cities across the globe. These leaders embody WeUnify's values, understand the global urgency for unity and have the amazing ability to inspire others to be a part of the journey for change.

We need you to lead

We recognize that creating a world based on unity will take more than just an inspiring ideology or a one time campaign. We need a movement with staying power and this takes all of us; an interconnected community of global citizens empowered to spread inclusions in the cities where they live.

Community building is tough work, which is why we need you to establish a chapter in your city and create a vibrant space for passionate individuals to collaborate on bringing unity to your community.

How to set up a chapter

You can start a WeUnify chapter in three steps:

  • Contact WeUnify: Get in touch with us and let us know you're interested in forming a chapter.
  • Select an area of focus for your chapter: We recognize that each region across the world faces its own unique challenges of division and exclusion. We'll brainstorm with you to help you specify the mission of your chapter.
  • Make it official: Once you're well on your way to designing events and recruiting your chapter team, we'll assign you a regional community manager and also feature you on our website.

Our commitment to you

As a global community, we will:

  • Make it fun! You will get to meet brilliant and passionate changemakers across the globe as you work towards building unity in your own community
  • Provide mentorship and coaching by more seasoned members of the community
  • Offer resources and skilled volunteers to bring you needed skills such as design, technology and storytelling
  • Bring international attention to the work of your chapter through these channels of our global platform:
    • Our WeUnify Ideas platform for storytelling
    • Our global members Facebook group
    • Your own chapter microsite on our chapters webpage
  • Assign you a regional community manager so you're always plugged into the broader WeUnify movement

Your commitment to WeUnify

Expect to commit at least 4 hours per week for the next 12-18 months to building your chapter. Chapter leaders must agree to:

  • Uphold the virtues of The WeUnify Pledge
  • Receive new member applicants and onboard them to WeUnify
  • Host a minimum of three chapter events per year by either:
    • Bringing our global calls to action in your city; or
    • Designing your own local campaigns relevant for your region
  • Attend quarterly update calls with your assigned regional community manager to:
    • Keep in touch with what's happening with WeUnify globally
    • Share your stories of impact
    • Learn more about areas where you can support other WeUnify chapters

Are you excited yet?
